Our Team

Howard James

Howard James has been open water swimming since 2008. In addition to a whole slew of open water swims, Howard has swum the Irish Channel, the English Channel five times, and is the holder of the earliest and latest English Channel swims in temperatures averaging 10.6° Celsius. Howard understands the needs of the aspirant long distance swimmer. He is always willing to share what he has learnt firsthand and to pass that knowledge on to others.

Howard is also the Channel Swimming Association’s representative for South Africa.

Derrick Frazer

Derrick Frazer

Derrick Frazer is the leading man of Big Bay Events. His organisation of events and knowledge of the open water, is what draws Derrick to the top of many swimmers’ list for logistical support. Derrick has been supporting swimmers in open water since 2009 and also coaches English Channel aspirants.

Derrick is also the Red Bulls King of The Air event safety co-ordinator here in Cape Town. His understanding of health and safety and its importance for open water swimming is unparalleled.

Walter Muggleton

Walter Muggleton has over twenty years experience of working with sport, social, and charity events in Malawi. These events include twenty years involvement with the Lake Malawi International Sailing Marathon as chairman, and head of rescue and safety operations.

Walter has successfully piloted several Lake Malawi swims. His knowledge and understanding of the lake, along with the measures necessary, are essential in making this a safe, enjoyable, and successful swim.

Walter is the Director of Jambo Africa Travel and works with us to ensure that all of your travel needs are well-planned, safe, and organised.
