Cape Town – False Bay

False Bay (Valsbaai) is at the extreme western end of the inshore Agulhas marine eco region which extends from Cape Point to the Mbashe river over the continental shelf. Here the the warm Agulhas current and the cooler South Atlantic waters mix.

The 35 km route from Millers Point to Rooi Els in False Bay, is the very definition of an extreme swim. Although the sea temperatures can be relatively temperate (between 18 to 22 degrees in the summer months), here you will swim over the largest of the Great White Sharks’ breeding grounds. During your swim you may also have close encounters with orcas, dolphins, and the Cape fur seal. Deemed by many as foolish or reckless to cross, this vast body of water has captured the respect of the open water swimming community. With only about 20 attempts to date, the success rate for the swim stays low for now … Are you strong enough for the challenge?

Respective swims and a 6 hour qualifying swim would need to be submitted on application.
