Swimmer Narrative:
“I’m a huge lover of Africa, water, and sport,” said Sam Kruger. “I would love to take on the Still Water 8 Challenge and thought this a great way to kick it off.”
Sam drew inspiration from past Lake Malawi swimmers. “The photos really motivated me to come,” she explained. “But honestly, no photos or words can do this swim justice. If you’re a marathon swimmer, you just have to experience it!”
Based in Hillcrest, KZN, most of Sam’s training was in the 28°C pools of Virgin Active. “The conditions felt like a good match,” she noted. After two English Channel attempts in 2023, she was ready for a new challenge in warmer waters. “I was incredibly nervous before the swim, but the excitement of swimming in Lake Malawi made it all worthwhile.
