Notably, Howard holds the records for the earliest and latest English Channel swims, both completed in challenging temperatures averaging 10.6°C. As someone who has navigated the unique challenges of long-distance swimming firsthand, Howard is well-equipped to understand the needs of aspiring swimmers. He’s generous in sharing his hard-won knowledge and experience with others, offering valuable insights to help them achieve their goals.
As the Channel Swimming Association’s representative for South Africa, Howard is dedicated to supporting and promoting the sport in the region.

With over a decade of experience in open water event management, Derrick has honed his expertise in navigating the unique challenges of aquatic events.
Since 2009, he’s provided crucial support to swimmers tackling open water challenges, including coaching aspirants attempting the iconic English Channel swim. Additionally, Derrick serves as the safety coordinator for the Red Bull King of the Air event in Cape Town, showcasing his exceptional grasp of health and safety protocols.
His dedication to ensuring the well-being of swimmers has earned him a reputation as a leading authority in open water safety.”
Walter Muggleton
With over two decades of experience in managing sports, social, and charity events in Malawi, Walter Muggleton is a seasoned expert in the region. His notable achievements include a 20-year tenure as chairman and head of rescue and safety operations for the prestigious Lake Malawi International Sailing Marathon.
Walter has also successfully coordinated several high-profile swims across Lake Malawi, leveraging his in-depth knowledge of the lake’s unique conditions to ensure safe and successful events.
As the Director of Jambo Africa Travel, Walter works closely with us to provide meticulous planning, safety, and organization for all travel arrangements, guaranteeing a seamless experience for participants.
