Howard James
Managing Co-ordinator
With over 17 years of experience in open water swimming, Howard James is a seasoned veteran of the sport. His impressive resume boasts an array of notable achievements, including multiple English Channel crossings, a total of five, as well as a successful swim across the Irish Channel.
Notably, Howard previous held the records for the earliest and latest English Channel swims, both completed in challenging temperatures averaging 10.6 degrees Celsius. As someone who has navigated the unique challenges of long distance swimming firsthand, Howard is well equipped to understand the needs of aspiring swimmers. He’s generous in sharing his hard won knowledge and experience with others, offering valuable insights to help them achieve their goals.
As the Channel Swimming Association’s representative for South Africa, Howard is dedicated to supporting and promoting the sport in the region.

Walter Muggleton
Captain, Lake Malawi
With over two decades of experience in managing sports, social and charity events in Malawi, Walter is a seasoned expert in the region. His notable achievements include a 20 year tenure as chairman and head of rescue and safety operations for the prestigious Lake Malawi International Sailing Marathon.
Walter has also successfully coordinated several high profile swims across Lake Malawi, leveraging his in depth knowledge of the lake’s unique conditions to ensure safe and successful events.
As the Director of Jambo Africa Travel, Walter works closely with us to provide meticulous planning, safety and organisation for all travel arrangements, guaranteeing a seamless experience for participants.

Johnny herne
Pilot, St Helena Island
Johnny is the skipper and proprietor of Enchanted Isle, a tour operator with in depth knowledge of the waters around St Helena Island. He is an approved St Helena Government tour operator and takes visitors on tours to see the island from a different angle and offers whale shark spotting trips.
Johnny also works with marine biologists visiting the island and has a genuine passion for St Helena’s environment.
His knowledge of the currents and landmarks means you’re assured to be in safe hands. When he’s not on the ocean, you’ll find him seeking out trees, he loves being surrounded by greenery on the island. He’s a true nature lover.

Jamie Essex & Jamie Yon
Pilots, St Helena Island
Jamie & Jamie are the dynamic duo behind Seahawk Odyssey, offering top-notch water support for scuba and free diving. As well as expert-led Whale Shark and fishing tours around the island.
With their vast experience and infectious passion for the ocean, they’re a good reliable source for an unforgettable aquatic adventure.
Both Jamie’s went through sea recue training and directly worked for Sea Rescue before obtaining their own boat.
